Throw Away The Pedestal

"So what am I really capable of"?  is the question we all ask ourselves nearly every day.  A good deal of what we believe and what we doubt comes from experience and observation.  Experience, our own that is, slips into the sub-conscious mind as to what we have done relative to what has worked and what has not.  Observation is the comparative of our thoughts and goals to what we see in the world around us.  Often times we end up comparing what we want with what others have achieved. While this can and should peel back and provide the proof of what is possible, it can also have a negative affect if fewer and fewer appear to have reached a particular summit of where we would like to sit.  I heard a stat a while back that said 75% of Canadians filing taxes had a reported income below $50,000 per year.  Easy calculation to say that only 25% earn more.  It went on to state that fewer than 5% earn $100,000. or more.  As the numbers diminish so does our belief. The more doubt creeps in, the more we tend to view those who achieve as having or being something that we could never obtain. We begin to see these people without flaws.  100% disciplined.  Born with gifts most of us will never have. The Power to Change from Within by Randy Taylor of Taylormade Leadership @TheWinnerWithin (social)I have had a great number of coaching clients ask if I ever have challenges completing what needs to be done to move forward. The answer is "of course". My wife is one of the top nutritionists in Canada and I know the public perception is that she does not succumb to pizza or chocolate or cake. The answer is "of course". The greatest baseball player of all time was far from perfect.  Ty Cobb's batting average, the best in baseball history was 366.  That means out of every 1000 times at bat he failed 634 times. Here is the truth then. We must not allow ourselves to see those who have achieved what we dream of to be without flaws. Without failures. Without challenges. Here is the magic of what allows another to have what we dream of. They don't stop. They set a goal, find out what is necessary to achieve it and they keep going until they arrive. That's all we need know and do. The first step in achieving all that you want is this.  When you see others in procession of your dream become inspired and throw away the pedestal. Have an excellent day.
