Sometimes you have to stop...

Sometimes you have to stop... ...but rarely. I have discussed at great length before that ultimately what happens to negate the achievement of a goal is that we stop. We discontinue the activity that was moving us forward. The goal may be to finish a presentation or to reach the top in our field or to build a financial wall around our family that nothing can get through. All goals are possible. All pursuits within our grasp. What generally happens is that we hear a voice in our head providing all of the reasons or excuses why this may not happen, now or later or ever. Past experience with true obstacles are the primary driver to creating the illusion that they lurk around every corner. There is no question that there are certain times in our lives when we do have to stop, at least temporarily and deal with an urgent situation. I did have one of those days. During a group coaching session one of my clients had to leave due to a very urgent matter. As a result they missed a good portion of the session and will have to make up the information. Here is the truth. The situation was real. It had to be dealt with immediately. It did interrupt the session for this person. However, here is a more important truth. This almost never happens. I can say that because with hundreds of sessions I have conducted over the past ten years, this was the first time that an event actually required someone to get up and leave mid-session. That's the point. Don't allow the voice in your head to offer up limited past experience where an urgent situation arose to knock you off track or deter you from doing what is necessary, which quite simply is to not stop. The stopping after all almost always temporary. Know this. Sometimes you do have to stop; but rarely. Very rarely. Have an excellent day.   Be well,   Randy Taylor   Buy The Books!
