Know Why You Want It

Know why you want it. Money that is.  When you really stop and think about it, in a society so driven by capitalism and the acquisition of money, it's strange that so little attention is paid to defining the why. You may hear others or say yourself, "I want to make this much money"  without really knowing why. Simply "having" the money does not create a sufficient connection.  In seminars I have told the story many times about my trip to Home Depot to buy a drill.  I talk to the man in the tool department, pick out the best one, take it to the cash, pay for it and then something remarkable happens while driving home.  It dawns on me that I don't really want a drill.  I've never wanted a drill.  What I wanted were the holes, but they don't sell holes.  Life is like that, in so much as we spend so much time trying to acquire the drill and never really take the time to find out what the holes are.   The holes in life are the experiences the drill can provide for.  The cottage that allows for "this" experience with family and friends.  The trip that provides the opportunity to experience something that has always scratched away at the depths of your soul.  The overwhelming pride you feel when you are able to provide a scholarship at the University that shows the way out for a young man or woman who might never have had the chance.   So many people today wonder why money itself appears to be so elusive. The reason is because on its own there is little emotional connection.  We may hear it and may actually tell ourselves that we desire more money, but the truth is without the emotional connection to "why" the drill will likely remain at arms length.  Fix in your minds eye what the experience of the holes are for you and know this.  You will get your drill.  Just know why you want it. Have an excellent day.   Be well,   Randy Taylor   Buy The Books!
