If You Have Nothing Good To Say...

You know how this quote finishes. It was told to us by our parents and our teachers and a good many of those in a position of influence around us throughout life. Here's what this is. Great advice. There is so many negatives whirling around in all of our lives, the one way we can show ourselves to be different is to not tear another down so as to build ourselves up. The bloodsport known as the Election Campaign is well underway and the archers are reaching back into their quivers and firing poisoned arrows into the night sky with the hope of perceiving the heart of their competitor. All candidates and their minions have forgotten the great advice their parents gave them. "If you have nothing good to say................. Years ago I tried something on my radio show that people still talk about. During the run up to the provincial election I invited the local candidates in for an on-air debate. There were 10 questions regarding policy and they were each given 90 seconds to answer. The only caveat was that they were not allowed to make any mention of any of their competitors. All they were allowed to do was tell listeners what they would do. It was fascinating. For 2 hours the complexion of the political process completely changed. For 2 hours there was decorum and respect, solutions and vision. Alas, it was only 2 hours but it was a great reminder of what we are all capable of. Do that then. Make this your creed in life. Remember that great advice our parents gave us all those years ago. If you have nothing good to say................ Have an excellent day.
