Play Your Best Song When No One's Watching

We just need to get better.  Jim Rohn once said, "If you want more you just need to become more".  That's it really.  When we are born we come into this world kicking and screaming. Sleeping and eating and not much else.  All the actions we invest in over the days and months and years develop who we are and what we are capable of.  Think of any skill you have.  Chances are when you first began you were terrible.  I was.  The first time you played the guitar. Cooked a meal.  Made a sale.  Wrote a letter.  It is the practice that may not make us perfect but certainly makes us better.  Working to get better at what we love is more than half of the equation.  One of the secrets to the equation however is to continue on the process when the prize may not be evident.  Practice when you are hot.  Practice in a crowd.  Practice when you are down.  Practice when there is no one there to see you or hear you.  I took my wife out for a night out in the city a couple of weeks ago.  In the lobby of the hotel we stopped for a drink and a snack.  We were the only ones there.  A while after we arrived a big guy looking like a hockey player wandered over to the piano, set down his coffee and glass of water and started to play.  His talent is more than I can possibly explain or do justice.  After the first song the lyrics of Billy Joel came to mind, "Man what are you doing here".  We were fortunate enough to talk to him after his first set.  Turns out he is one of the top musicians and songwriters in the city.  His Perspectives - The Power of Why by Randy Taylor of Taylormade Leadership @TheWinnerWithin (Social)background was with Michael Buble's band and he penned Buble's latest hit Hollywood. "I know there's not many people here tonight" he said "But my wife and I live close and I just love to play".  Therein lies the answer as to why he is so very good.  Take a page out of his book for everything that you desire in life.  Play your best song when no one's watching.  Have an excellent day.
